Finding Faith and Purpose After an Autism Diagnosis With Kari Baker From KIND Families
There are moments in life that shake the ground beneath you. Moments that change everything — your plans, your expectations, your sense of control.
For Kari, that moment came when her son, Brady, was diagnosed with autism at age three.
She had what looked like a picture-perfect life — a thriving career in 401(k) consulting, a happy marriage to her husband John, and their beautiful little boy. Everything was going exactly as planned. Until suddenly, it wasn’t.
That diagnosis changed everything… but it also revealed everything. It revealed a new kind of strength, a deeper faith, and a purpose Kari didn’t even know God was leading her toward.
Over the last decade, she’s learned what it means to surrender her own definition of success and let God rewrite her story. She discovered a peace that doesn’t come from having it all together — but from trusting the One who holds it all together.
Kari is now the founder of KIND Families — Kids with Invisible Neurological Differences — a faith-based community for parents raising neurodivergent children. She’s also the author of Finding Kind, a powerful and vulnerable look at her family’s journey through diagnosis, acceptance, and divine purpose.
In our conversation, Kari and I talk about what happens when life’s “earthquakes” hit — and how God still meets us in the rubble. We talk about releasing the version of motherhood we thought we’d have and embracing the one God designed for us instead.
If you’ve ever asked, “Why, God?” or wondered how to find faith again when everything feels uncertain, this episode will remind you that His plan is still good… even when it’s not what we expected.
Because faith doesn’t always come from the miracle.
Sometimes, it comes from the after.
